Jun. 13th, 2005 07:51 pmSo I'm home from Ohio, and I'm finally going to do what I've been threatening to do...
Post pictures!
I took, like 95, so I'm only going to post a few.
On the first day we were in Ohio, we went to the Cincinnati Museum of Art and the Krohn Conservatory. I got an official Camera Pass. :)

This is the chandelier that hangs in the lobby of the Art Museum. It's freaking ginormous--and blue! The picture is a little blurry, but it was very cool.

Venus does too wear contacts.
This is actually part of a larger painting, "The Toilet of Venus," by Simon Vouet. She is totally putting in her contacts. I guess those Ancient Romans were even smarter than we thought...

This was in the modern art section. Guess why. It's a bunch of cubes standing out from the wall. I thought it looked spiffy.

Believe it or not, this is not art. At least, not officially.

A spiffycool sentiment outside the Art Academy, which is attached to the Museum. Good place for an Art Academy, really.
Then we went to the Krohn Conservatory. They had this butterfly house going. I didn't manage to get a picture of a blue morpho, because they were spastic and refused to sit still, but I did get this guy.

He was a good butterfly--he sat still the entire time, with the eyespot on his wing in perfect camera range. Not like the blue morphos.

The conservatory was gorgeous. Really hot, since it was basically a huge greenhouse, but gorgeous. And everything was green.

I picked up these bad boys at the gift shop. Since it's lacking scale, I'll tell you they're about an inch high apiece, not including the pot. They're coming to school with me--I can't kill a cactus.
I need ideas for names, by the way. They must be named, and have not yet been.
We had lunch at Rookwood Pottery, which has excellent burgers and used to be a... potterier? I dunno. They made pottery, anyway, and the guy up front said that they have three ghosts. I wasn't sure if he was serious or not.

This is my favoritest uncle. He's trying to balance a salt shaker on its edge. Don't ask.
Later that evening, we went to Newport at the Levee, which is a collection of shops and restaurants and things, and also an aquarium, which we failed to visit. Another time, perhaps.

Out front they had this fountain, which spurted jets of water at varying heights at intervals. This will be important later.
We had dinner at a yummy seafood restaurant, the name of which I can't recall. I do, however, recall the shrimp. Mmm, shrimp.
Out back there was a great view of the Ohio River. I mean, if you're into views of the Ohio River.

This is a pedestrian bridge across said river. It is actually called the Purple People Bridge. I wondered if it was one-eyed, one horned and flying...

On our way out we saw a guy selling hermit crabs. It was kind of depressing; there were about a hundred crabs in one terrarium, all crawling around, trying to get out. I did, however, get this wonderful picture of the crab who would be king.
Remember that fountain? My cousin dared me to run through it. Easiest ten bucks I ever made--I walked through without getting a drop on me. Lucky timing. :)
And then there was the wedding, and the wedding reception, and the family infighting, but this was the fun day.
And now I'm home.
