Jun. 20th, 2007 10:56 pmThere keep being things I think I want to write about, and never get around to. I will now proceed to write some of them, in brief, until I get bored.
So You Think You Can Dance. Last season, I only watched the last bit of it (go Benji! ahem. And this season he performed at the last results show, and at the end he dropped his pants. And was wearing american flag boxers.). This season, we caught it from the beginning. It's been really fun to watch all the way through -- it's unbelievable how many amazing dancers there are. I wish so much that I had started doing something like that when I was little, and stuck with it. There are nine couples left until tomorrow night, and so many of the dancers are amazing. There are a few who seem sort of limited to their particular area, but most of them are fun to watch.
My picks for bottom three this time around are Cedric and Faina (Cedric is bad at foxtrot), Jaimie and Hok (they're both bad at samba), and... Shauna and Jimmy, I guess, with Cedric to go home. And Faina? I dunno. Of those female-type-people, I don't really care who stays in. Mom and I nailed the bottom three last week, so we'll see what happens this week.
... and I'm back, after being distracted by wikipedia.
Did lunch with Sarah/
sakecake on Monday, which was super cool. Chris-my-brother recommended Bali Hai, a Mongolian grill near Duke. It was tasty, and the company was most congenial. :) I am sad that there will be no more lunch with Sarah until Spring semester, but Budapest!
I come back on Friday. So weird. I still haven't started with the packing. Or the laundry, for that matter, so tomorrow will be interesting. I really really want to be back, for reasons that are probably obvious. Also I want to start working! Apparently they have some potential projects lined up, so that's exciting. I just want to know what they are, so I can finally tell people what I'll be doing, more specifically than working on this program.
Scanned a bunch of recipes this afternoon. Mom wants to put together recipe books for Chris and I, so she was going to use the copy machine at Dad's work to do that, but somebody remembered that we have a scanner, zomg, so I scanned things instead. It was cool. I found Mom's Grandmother's recipe for "Anti-Flu Juice," transcribed by my dad -- 1/2 cup hot water or tea, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoon honey, and whiskey to taste. I was amused by this. Apparently whiskey was a fairly standard remedy for flu back in the day.
I've been trying to stretch every night before I go to bed, as well as hitting the gym three times a week. Been moderately successful with both, probably more so with the gym. I am such a wimp; with both of the arm machines I've been using, I've had to set the resistance on the lightest mass. The treadmill is actually kind of fun, because it makes me walk whether I feel motivated to keep walking at the same speed or not. When I'm walking on my own I tend to slow down, making it kinda impractical for exercise. I like not feeling like a slug, like I was at the end of the semester and the beginning of the summer. Capoeira was good, but then I stopped and didn't start doing anything else. To make the ballroom team next year, I'm going to have to be much more flexible, too. I like actually doing and moving.
Chris has a girlfriend! They're very cute. They spent a lot of time together at Duke (and do now -- she's at Duke for the summer, so she's spent two of the past three weekends here, and is currently going to spend the night for the second night in a row), so they've done the thing where most of their mannerisms are the same. They've been dating since February, while they were tenting for tickets to the UNC/Duke game, and apparently had their first kiss in the tent. Aw.
I miss Rudy. These two thoughts are in fact linked.
