Jul. 11th, 2003 08:22 pmA rather good day, all in all. Went to see Finding Nemo this afternoon with Book Club. Even Trevor admitted that it was a good movie. I liked the turtles. "Dude, don't hurl on the shell, I just waxed it." Heheh.
Then I had a conversation with my mom over dinner about beliefs, political and religious. I had a chance to crystallize exactly what I think about stuff without too much biased input; most of the time she played devil's advocate, especially when we hit religion. One of the upshots of that conversation that's most important to me is something Mom said right before she left to pick up Dad--"Religion is not God." I think rejecting the existance of God simply because one thinks that one of the religions that believes in him is a crock is ridiculous. If there is a God, which I happen to believe that there is, he was there before the dinosaurs, if one happens to believe in them, which I do, and our worshipping him or not will make very little difference in the grand scheme of things.
All one can do, in the end, is follow one path as far as one can, and hope at the end that one is right, because there is no way to check along the journey. Yes, some paths have to be more valid than others, but who are we to choose which paths are the valid ones?
