Jul. 29th, 2003 01:40 pmI don't think US History will be nearly as bad as I thought it would be, if it can be taught like Founding Brothers. Yes, I actually liked the book, except for the introduction, which I skipped on advice from people who didn't. You can't make up stories like the friendship of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, estranged for years before coming back into contact, remaining friends until they both died on the same day, the fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. You'll never make like writing about it, but I might at least enjoy the class.
Yesterday was... odd. There was an overarching feeling of "not a lot of fun," but it was a good day in the details. I busted one of the Saturn's tires on my way to dropping Chrisbro off at RCHS to help Mrs. Newmark set up her room. There were several calls to parents, some rather tearful; the upshot is that I am now a member of AAA, and the Saturn is at the mechanic's to get a new tire and do some other routine stuff. But there was a blue-tailed skink in the room, which Chrisbro and friends managed to chase out. They managed to get most of its tail off, completely by accident. At least, the first time it was. Then Lucas tried to pick it up by the remainder of its tail. Poor skink. I said something like "what are you doing? Are you stupid?" I was amused when Mrs. Newmark said "apparently, yes." Going through the trunk of the Saturn, in attempts to find the spare tire, I found a broken ski pole ("if I ever go to a sports store, I'll know what kind I need"), several extra helmets ("now you know where yours is"), and the remote to our old TV ("..."). Dad insists that it all belongs in there. Hah.
Also, I asked Mrs. Newmark about the nature of the Schmidt and the Nelson. Apparently both are young female teachers, one if not both right out of school. Potentially good, potentially bad. Either way, we'll get to help break them in. Any wagers as to whether they'll be back next year?
