htothehI love being able to talk to my mom. We had a massive discussion yesterday about tolerance, starting with homosexuality, possibly passing through religion, I don't really remember, and ending up in racial tolerance. Or maybe it was the other way around. But the point is, we talked for something like an hour, and it was an exchange of ideas between intellectual equals, and it was spiffy.
It started with her going to church for some reason, and seeing all these people who are going to leave. I'm Episcopalian by denomination, but this isn't really my fault. So there are quite a few members of our church who are leaving over this whole Vermont kerfuffle. I think it's ridiculous, personally. Women didn't used to be allowed to be full members of a church, etc.--there's more in the Bible against that than there is condemning homosexuality. And now there's all these people screaming about how the Bishops violated the Bible, et cetera ad nauseum. Apparently the conservative faction is splitting off; ironically enough, they're probably going to be the ones who end up associated with the International Anglican Church, because they're conservative. I don't get how they can complain that Bishop Robinson's confirmation or whatever wasn't valid, because hello, majority? Stupid people bother me. So do intolerant people.
So does Ms. Nelson. This came to my mind only because I'm supposed to be doing fish research, which is emminently stupid, but oh, well.
