htothehOnce in a while I will realize suddenly that something is not at all the same as it was before, that it changed gradually without me noticing at all and is now miles away from where it started. I noticed sometime last summer that the tree in our front yard had grown about five feet, and that I could no longer see the mailbox from my bedroom window. This was a surprise. During basketball season last year, I realized that my brother is now a very cool person, a very cool high schooler, who has an identity completely separate from "Hannah's really tall younger brother," and who I enjoy talking to and spending time with.
Another one of those hit me last night (this morning?) around midnight, after I had been talking to Chris for an hour, and neither one of us particularly wanted to hang up. Somewhere between snickering in English, getting soaked at Lake Pine, and procrastinating on IM, I casually leaned on the wall--and it had disappeared.
